Contestant One : Diana Gitonga

What are you full names?
My name is Diana Kaburi Gitonga, a third year student pursuing a degree in Environmental Science at Kenyatta university. Despite my passion for the labs and my environment, I am an art lover! Music and poetry has always been part of me. All sunk deep into my nerves and marrow. I love people and that makes me social and outgoing though  partially an introvert. Being me has never been a weakness and that makes me foe to pretense, I’m a go-getter by nature though acts in silence

What do you have to say about NRS?
NRS is the place to be. The team, the management and it’s supporters make it a home,a family rather than a competition. Nurtures all and makes all realize that greatness and success is in you, unleash it!!

How can people vote for you to win in the competition?
How to vote me in as your next rated superstar? It’s simple, SMS “Star Diana” to 22384, at Kshs 10, applicable to Safaricom lines only.

What would you do if you were to win this competition?
Winning the competition will be a breakthrough not only to  me but my community at large. Given a platform, I’ll create a platform to several youths not only in music but in any artistic project. A recording contract will mean a leeway to inspiration for many souls through my music,a soul healer.

And if you don’t win, what plans in the future do you have for music?
Not winning doesn’t make me a looser, not at all! Psychologically I would have been the best,my own winner! Because I beat fear and doubt, man’s greatest push back..I will not stop at that but run my race to see my visions and imaginations to reality

Any music icon or mentor?
Yemi Alade kills it big time!! I love her energy on stage and her unpredictable nature in music, monotony has never been a word in her dictionary of music.Late Angela Chibalonza will always be my legend, my Gospel icon.

What has been your biggest challenge when it comes to the music industry here in Kenya?
Funny enough, fear and lack of self-believe have been my greatest challenges which I’m struggling to chuck out of me.Yet to taste the waters of musicianship give a chance to quench my thirst and crave.

Parting shot!
You got all it takes to be winner, get up,dust off and run your race, remember God got you, that’s the greatest favor, cheers.

Musically, my icon is Cynthia Morgan, an african dancehall artist who not only makes music sweet by singing it but with dance too. My best of her is the super crazy side that gives her music ‘the taste’.

What has been your biggest challenge when it comes to the music industry here in Kenya?
My biggest challenge in the industry came about when I couldn’t afford to support myself financially in order to do and sell my music. This has been so frustrating and heartbreaking but with NRS I have seen a break through.
