I have travelled various parts of our country Kenya but never been to a place as Mwingi. This is in Ukambani. It been in Ukambani and I don’t mean Machakos. I mean where you stay three to four hours in a bus. You sleep, wake up, sleep again and still see you ain’t arriving to your destination. It’s far. You are lucky enough if you have a personal car, you only travel for two hours since there are no stops on every bus stop.
By the time you arrive in Mwingi from Nairobi, you are already so tired. So sleepy. But I must say the first thing I noticed there was the cool climate. The weather there is great. No elnino per se. Its not very sunny and not cold. I do not know what to call that kinda weather. I have heard people say how hot it is there but I guess I was just lucky to go there in December when the climate is just cool.
I arrived there and the hills and the huge rocks was what I noticed first. They were so inviting I must say. I loved the view. All I wished was to just sit there and watch as the sun set. I actually took a shot.
I heard residents there talking in kikamba language (This is one of the languages here in kenya). All I could here was “oka va” that I was later learnt meant come here. I laughed because of how fast they talked. I wished I could understand what they were saying., but seriously for some reason, I loved the language.
My stay in there was great. I loved everything about Mwingi. There is no huge crowd of people like in Nairobi. Am sure that was a nice break from the huge crowd usually in Nairobi.
And by the way, my advice is if you get a chance to go to Mwingi, ensure you get a taste on their kuku kienyeji and Nyama choma because it is so sweet. You will love it!
Here are some more pictures of the place.
I just wished I had enough time to stay there. But for sure, Mwingi is a great place to visit.
