Never the same again…

She sat on the toilet seat crying and confused. Her heart beat fast every time she looked at the pregnancy test that had turned  positive. What had she done? What was she going to do? Too many questions ran through her mind. Her name was Winnie. She had just joined the university of her choice and dedicated herself to books. She had promised her parents that she will work hard and be the best in her class. One day as she was in the schools' library selecting a series of books to study for her assessment that was the following

Date with the Devils – Part Six

I gained my consciousness in the middle of the night, found myself lying on a hospital bed. All alone. Wrestling for my life. Defying death. Motionless. I did not know how I got here. I felt dizzy and weaker. I couldn't even move my legs, they were numb. What happened? What had I done to deserve this? Where did I go wrong in my life? Countless questions ran through my mind without a single answer. When I looked at the clock on the wall, it was 2 AM at night. The facility was graveyard silent except the beeping sound of machines

Date with the devils – Part Three

Sometimes we create our own heartbreaks through expectation. All she could offer me was heartbreak... On that very evening when I was still lying on my bed thinking of how this counselors of mine had messed up with my life, I decided to now call Nderitu. Nderitu is one of my longtime friend and adviser too who has known me for the better part of my life. Though he hasn’t recently been much loyal. I had also included him in my list of counselors, reason being he knew all my problems and it’s not surprising that he was the cause of

Date With the Devils – Part Two

That’s how I escaped Dr. Sasha’s advice. Zainabu was the next counselor in my list…… …………Zainabu was the next counselor in my list but I actually had a tough time on deciding whether I had to continue seeking help after what had happen with Dr. Sasha. I didn’t predict that all she could offer me was mild headache. My ultimate wish was to be redeemed from this situation which was preparing my ticket direct to eternal condemnation. Anyway, many are the times this 'Never give up' cliche has hit me. I was not going to ignore the

Get to know Me…

I come from the slopes of Mt Kenya. Kirinyaga is where I was born and raised by my parents. I have two siblings and am the second born. I went to Primary school, finished, went to high school and finished then went to campus and finished. Though my mama still insists I continue reading until I see the 'No education ahead' sign. What I know is I love sleep. Sleep and I are one. It never disappoints. If you have read any of my posts, you will realize how close we are. Only that sometimes it never wants to leave me alone even after

Where I stay…

I moved into my neighborhood sometime last year and I never ever regret doing that. So, before that I lived in Ngara in a hostel. Not that I liked staying there but my mama been this old fashioned and insecure lady thought that it was a great idea to stay in the hostel. She is the kind of parents who think that if their daughter comes to Nairobi, she will get into bad company or she will just get pregnant from the blues. You guys get what I mean. What she did not know is that hostel is a total mess. OK, not really a whole lot of

A Day in My Life..

Today morning I woke up feeling sick and a friend proposed I go to the nearest hospital.  I don't know why but the thought of going to hospital totally freaks me out. The last time I was there I was injected. At this age, I still fear injections. The pain, I can't take it but I try my best not to shed a tear. I sit up and start to plan my day. Am the kinda person who sleeps not knowing what the next day plans are going to be. It's Thursday. I check my alarm and realize am thirty minutes late from my usual wake up time. Damn..This

Please, Take Me To Church

I stare at my white ceiling. The white ceiling that has huge brown spots due to the rain licking inside.  It's staring back at me. Does it ever get tired? My mind hits back to how many times I have had to consult the caretaker. It's like am usually preaching to him and he never seems to understand what am saying. It has now become a daily habit to always remind him I need my ceiling fixed. Few months down the line, still nothing. At this point I feel like giving up and just leaving this house completely. I have had enough

Yes Mama I Did it!!!

I sometimes look back at my high school life and wonder how I made it through. I was not the best that everyone wanted me to be. I was average. I hate average. Average this, average that. I wanted more. I needed more than just education. I wanted to experience life outside school. Life outside the closed gates. Life outside wearing uniform the whole time. This is what I wanted. Freedom to do what I want at any time. I had a dream.... I recall one day an uncle of mine asked what course I wanted to pursue after school. Ok , here
